They make very clear they're not going to share either their burger or their sauce recipe. So what's the point?This is a very thorough history of burger joints - pretty much all of them - but not much of a cookbook. I'm disappointed.
Incredibly disappointing. The Fakeshack recipes from Kenji on the Serious Eats website do a better job of replicating the Shake Shack burger. The book makes it clear right off the bat that it does not intend to give away any secrets, like recipe for their burger sauce, or blend of beef cuts for the burger mixture.Unless you're interested in the back story of Shake Shack, look elsewhere for a great burger cookbook.
Chicken Shack recipe was amazing along with the herb mayo and honey sauce. Not a lot of recipes but, im not expecting them to give their restaurant away. I do agree that the crinkle fry recipe was sorry, but i have the crinkle cutter they use already and i cut my own fries so im not too upset. I honestly cannot wait to try the rest of the recipes like the cheese sauce and the meister burger with the fried shallots.
Doesn't include accurate recipes, which is the point of a cookbook. In some cases it says "this isn't the way we do it in the restaurant, but..." before a recipe. I bought the cookbook to find out how they do it in the restaurant, not to make a mediocre sandwich that I could've found online for free. Love Shake Shack's food, but this isn't a cookbook, it's a cash grab.
I was very disappointed in this book since it is mostly text with few recipes, and the recipes that are included are not the real recipes from the restaurants but ones that are "similar." ??? My family loves Shake Shack, but they needed more recipes in here; it's more of a promotional item, but then it should be a lot lower in price.
More of a book on telling the story of Shake Shack than a recipe book. If you're looking for their burger blend or burger sauce, you will not find it in here.
I believe that some of the reviews are a little harsh. Yeah, I'll agree that I would have liked so have seen a couple of Shake Shack recipes, but the book is titled Recipes and Stories, so I decided to take it at face value.I like the Chef Collab section with some interesting takes on burgers (David Chang). I also enjoyed learning more about the Shake Shack story.I'm not trying to dig in more than the book really is. Overall, some good recipes and and entertaining read.
Can't beat these burgers and buns. We recreated everything for our corporate party this summer. About one hundred guests thought they were the best burgers they had ever tasted. You have to do it as they describe, obtaining the original potato buns, etc. Read for yourself.
